Checklist of the birds of Egypt
(István M., updated: 2008 Aug 7)

This list is following the taxonomic recommendations of the AERC TAC, following Vaurie(1959). The Genus Sylvidae is following the modifications of Lars Svensson(1992). The range and the comments on the species and subspecies was modified, and new comments has been added. As a reference, Birds of Egypt (Goodman and Meininger, 1989) has been used. Most of the records have been collected from the EgyBirdGroup ( Egybirdgroup@yahoogroups.com) and OSME.

The observations and comments on raptors are following my mentor and friend, Tom Coles† (1949-2008) observations, from: Vultures and Other Birds of Prey at Wadi El Gemal National Park, Red Sea Governorate, Egypt, January 2006 (unpublished)

The species highlighted in red, are not proved to been observed in the country (photographed, collected or at least handled by a ringer), or were collected before the XX century, and it is unclear if were collected within the actual borders of Egypt, or across the border in actual Sudan, which has been part of Egypt at that time. Some concerns arise from the records of Meinertzhagen who has been discredited meanwhile.

Please send any observation, comments and critics regarding this list to us.

Anyone should feel free to copy, reproduce or transmit in any form and any means this list, without attribution and prior permission.

Abreviations: FB-former breeder, E-extinct RB-resident breeder, IB-introduced breeder, MB-migrant breeder, CB-casual breeder, PV-pasange vagrant, WV-winter visitor, AV-accidental visitor, ESC-escaped.
